Wake Forest resident Austin Shaw was recently awarded the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards. He was one of 100 people from around the country honored for their voluntarism. 

Shaw, 18, organized a 5K race to raise money for a Ugandan vocational school. He plans to continue the Steps for Schools 5K again next year.

Cost is $8 a plate and goes until 7 p.m. today. The church is at the corner of S. Main Street and 98 Bypass.
