We moved to the Wake Forest area in 1999 from Pennsylvania. Subsequently, I hung up my corporate cleats to become a stay-at-home Mom of 2 boys and 2 girls, now ranging in age from 3 - 11. My aim is to provide DWF readers the same type of local "what's happening" tidbits and nuggets of information that I would share amongst my friends and neighbors, from a moms perspective.

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (Camp) Oh My!!

In the ongoing battle to keep American kids from losing any more ground in the fields of Math and Science to their foreign peers, North Carolina offers a small silver lining.  While America is still behind several nations in science and math, North Carolina students are performing better than other U.S. states in Math. To […]

Brooks Street Bowl Opens in Wake Forest

We are always looking for things for our entire family to do that will entertain and engage all four of my kids whose ages range from 11-3 years old.  Not always an easy task, as one might imagine… We hit the jackpot however, when we heard that Brooks Street Bowl, the new bowling alley in […]

Wake Forest’s First Hallowed Half Marathon and 10K Set for October 28th

If you are looking to get ahead of the candy binge and bulge that starts with Halloween (or maybe it’s just me who raids my children’s stash…) and ends sometime in January, a group called “WeTRIsports” is presenting Wake Forest’s First Hallowed Half Marathon and 10K race, on October 28th. Over 200 runners, walkers, and families of all […]

It is challenging to find things to keep kids busy with during the summer or find track-out camps for children of working parents.  Recently, I came across a fantastic, unique camp thanks to a flyer sent home with my kids from Franklin Academy.  The camp is called S.T.E.M., or Science, Engineering, Technology and Math.  Their […]

The Lemon Tree and Falls Day Spa Team Up for Mother’s Day Contest

I am in a really “pro-Mom” mood right now.  I am entirely fed up with our culture pitting Mom against Mom.  Moms who work vs. stay-at-home-Moms.  Moms who cook everything from scratch (feel free to insert organic or home grown here as well) vs. Moms who fly by the grocery on the way home from […]

Run…Like A Mother

Run…Like A Mother

Last Mothers Day, May 2011, was a memorable one at our house.  Memorable in the way that you’d kind of like to forget, but can’t because in hindsight, they are funny stories that get funnier as the year goes by… The kind of memorable that involves my daughter writing a Mother’s Day essay for school […]

Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah, Greetings from Camp Kanata!

Wake Forest is home to Camp Kanata, a 150 acre YMCA co-ed resident camp (they also have day camp and mini-camp options), that serves children from ages 6-15.  When it was created in the 1950s, I’m sure it was considered to be a “rural destination.” Though the area has grown tremendously, if you take the short drive on 98 West, hang […]

Cellar 275 at the Factory…Like a Starbucks, but with Wine…

In case you missed my post last week, I mentioned Cellar 275 as it related to the Wake Forest Area Runners Group.  I need to circle back and revisit with you this little gem of a place properly on its own. I liken it to a Starbuck’s coffee shop, but with wine.  It’s a great […]

Get Motivated and Have Fun with Wake Forest Area Runners Group

Inadvertently, I hit the jackpot last week.  Two of my favorite pastime activities have married in Wake Forest. 1) Running and 2) socializing over a nice glass of wine or a beer with friends. I met a friend last week at Cellar 275, a new-ish (opened in October 2011) wine and beer cafe’ at The Factory […]
