The Carolina Mudcats belted seven extra base hits to swim past the Myrtle Beach Pelicans 7-2 on Saturday night at Five County Stadium. The crowd of 4, 821 endured a one hour, 23 minute rain delay to see the Mudcats (7-8) take out a week’s worth of frustration on the Pelicans (8-7).

Mother Nature earned the final victory on Sunday afternoon as the Carolina Mudcats’ game with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans was postponed due to day-long soaking rains that made for unplayable field conditions.  A make-up date for the Pelicans’ June visit to Five County Stadium will be announced at a later time.

Francisco Jimenez (2-0) dealt three innings in relief for the win. The left-hander allowed two runs on four hits. He walked one and struck out four.

Wilmer Font (0-2) pitched the first inning for Myrtle Beach, allowing a run on one hit. The starter was lost for the game when the rains came in the second inning.

After losing back-to-back games due to a late inning collapse, Carolina pounded Myrtle Beach pitching for a total of 12 hits. Tony Wolters knocked in three runs with a double. Jesus Aguilar recorded two doubles and drove two.

In the third, Delvi Cid and Tyler Holt hustled out back-to-back triples for a 2-0 lead. A ground ball by Wolters brought home his first of the night. Cid and Holt started another Mudcats surge in the fifth inning with a pair of singles. A groundout by Wolters and a fly ball by Aguilar gave Carolina a 5-2 lead.

Dwight Childs launched his second home run of the season in the sixth inning to put the Mudcats ahead by four. Following a walk and a steal of second by Holt, Wolters doubled home the seventh run of the game on a line drive just inside the line in left field.

Brett Nicholas launched a two-run shot in the fourth for the Pelicans’ only runs.

The Mudcats played a clean game defensively, snapping a streak of nine straight games with at least one error.

Carolina concludes the series with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are available through the box office by calling (919) 269-2287 or visiting
