WINSTON-SALEM, NC The Winston-Salem Dash recovered from losing an early three-run lead to beat the Carolina Mudcats 6-5 in front of 3,682 on Sunday afternoon at BB&T Ballpark.
The win pulls Winston-Salem (5-4) into a first place tie with Carolina (5-4) in the Carolina League Southern division.
Jordan Cooper (0-1) allowed two runs on four hits in his Mudcats debut, taking the loss.
Mudcats starter T.J. House pitched six innings, allowing four runs on four hits. None of the runs were earned. The southpaw fanned eight hitters.
Winston-Salem erupted for three quick runs in the first inning against House. The Dash took advantage of two errors to score one. Nick Ciolli drove in two more with a double for a 3-0 lead.
Jeremie Tice launched a solo blast to dead-away center leading off the second to pull Carolina within two.
In the third, the Dash took advantage of a third error by the Mudcats. Brady Shoemaker punched a two-out single to right scoring Trayce Thompson for a 4-1 lead.
Carolina rallied to tie the score at 4-4 in the fourth. Jake Lowery extended his hitting streak to seven with a lead-off single. Jeremie Tice followed with a walk. Two outs later, Ronny Rodriguez launched a towering blast to left, tying the score.
Against Cooper in the seventh, Winston-Salem loaded the bases thanks to four straight singles. Thompson tied the game at five with a flyball to center. Dan Black drove in the go-ahead score with a single.
Carolina begins a three-game trip to Wilmington Monday night at 6:35 p.m. Right-hander Danny Salazar (0-1, 7.94) will throw against right-hander Leondy Perez (0-0, 3.00).
